【くちコミ情報】
２５作品のみの《選集》だが、最新のエディションで読みやすさは最高
ページ数から推察されるようにポーの「小説全集」ではない。"Tales of the G otesque and A a esque"と"Tales of the Folio Clu "に収められたもののうち２５編をまとめたものである。 だから、例えば『アッシャー家の崩壊 (The Fall of the House of Ushe )』や『ウィリアム・ウィルソン(William Wilson)』は収録されているけど、『モルグ街の殺人 (The Mu de s in the Rue Mo gue) 』などの、いわゆるオーギュスト・デュパンものは収録されていない。 そのために☆は４つにとどめたが、もともと１９１４年に出版されたエディションの復刻だから、多くの読者に読まれ続けてきた《選集》と推定される。まだ読みはじめだけど、これもひとつのポー作品の「読み方」だと思って、配列順に読んでゆくつもりでいる。 p ちなみに先に「復刻本」と記したように、初版時に記された"Int oduction to the Mode n Edition" と題された執筆者不明の４ページ弱の「解説」があるだけだが、製版は最新で（おそらくデジタル化した本文をコンピュータで製版したものだろう）本文は非常にきれいで読みやすさは最高である。 しかも携帯には便利なサイズなので、収録作品についての「限界」を了解していれば、短編数編で結構なお値段がする和訳文庫本に比べれば、コスト・パフォーマンスの点からも素晴らしい。
