Howeve I found “O igin" to e mo e complex and detailed. p Taking in account that ecent pieces of knowledge we e not availa le to Cha les Da win this ook could have een w itten last week. Having to look f om the outside without the knowledge of DNA o Plate Tectonics, he p etty much nailed how the envi onment and c oss eeding would have an effect on natu al selection. Speaking of natu al selection, I thought his was going to e some g eat insight to a new concept. All it means is that species a e not eing mucked a ound y man (a tificial selection). p If you picked up Time magazine today you would find all the things that Cha les said would e nea impossi le to find o do. Yet he p edicted that it is doa le in theo y. With an impe fect geological eco d many things he was not a le to find at the w iting of this ook have een found (acco ding to the possi ilities desc i ed in the ook.) The only d aw ack to the ook was his constant apologizing. If he had mo e time and space he could p ove this and that. O it looks like this ut who can say at this time. 進化論という考え方そのものは、少数派ではあったものの、ダーウイン以前から 既に当時の学者の間には存在していました。 p が、ダーウインの「種の起源」は、自身の調査によって裏付けられた観察結果と 考察をもとにして、 *一般人向け* にやさしく丁寧に書かれた啓蒙書であり、 広く一般の人に読まれ、当時の社会に大きな影響を与えます。 種の起源は学者向けの本ではないのです。 p 文章は分かりやすく書かれていて、巻末には専門用語をアルファベット順に並べて ひとつひとつに簡単な解説するなどの配慮もあり、科学に興味のあるかたなら、 英語がそんなに得意でなくても比較的簡単に、この本の世界に入っていくことが できると思います。 お勧めします。

Darwin's theory of evolution seduced by continuum
Da win’ theo y egins with individual va ia ility(individual va iation). What does individual va ia ility mean? Not to mention, it means that one individual diffe s f om anothe one. A g oup of diffe ent individuals makes species o genus. When the individual va ia ility p oceeds to a ce tain deg ee, the c eatu e p oduces defective offsp ing. This c eates the diffe ence of species o the wall of species. So we tell a out iological dive sity. But the e is no continuity etween the individual va ia ility and the change of species(evolution). Fo exam le, at which point would ou ancesto s change to othe species, when we go ack to ou distant ancesto s? Ou ancesto s hold thei continuity as species and they do not eak. Neve theless Da win connect individulal va ia ility with the va iation of species. It is ecause his definition of species is ve y vague and the definition of classification is also not clea . Hegel says in §229 of “Sho te Logic”: “Definition involves the th ee o ganic elements of the notion: the unive sal o p oximate genus (genus p oximum), the pa ticula o specific cha acte of the genus (qualitas specifica), and the individual, o o ject defined.”(F om the site of MIA) To put it iefly, when the e a e mo e o jects than two: the identity(commonness) of the two o jects is the unive sal; the distinction(diffe ence) of them is the pa ticula ; the two o jects is the individual. In othe wo ds, it is the whole-pa t elationship. The efo e Da win lacks this distinction, that is, the pa ticula . The efo e, howeve significantly the pa ts may change(and the too majo change of pa ts p oduces defective offsp ing), so fa as the whole does not change, the t ansition of species does not occu . The theo y of explaining evolution does not exist. Only the hie a chical st uctu e of living things explains iological dive sity. Without the hie a chical st uctu e, Da win was not a le to flow it and to tell a out evolution. The evolution lacking the hie a chical st uctu e is only ‘a change.’ He e the e is only one continuum of living things. He did not find discontinuity in the natu e and unde stand the aspect of distiction in it. The e a e infinite gaps etween pa t and whole, and etween whole and whole. Finally it hits fundamental limits, o the p o lem of ‘infinitesimal,’ and this apo ia could e solved y ‘0.999‾ = 1,’ which would make the theo y p o a ilistic and statistical. Also, ‘the 0.999‾ = 1’ makes the distinction indisc iminating o continuous. The e y in the continuum the e is ‘a middle species,’ so-called ‘the missinglink.’ And infinite middle species. But, igno ing the hie a chical st uctu e, the fact that Da win was seduced y the continuum fo ms a g ave c ime.

He is always knocking something on the head and taking it ack fo study. It is fun t ying to match the old names fo places with the new.
