データから読み取れる真実
世の中で通念として受け入れられていることが、データに基づいて解析してみると実は誤っていることが往々にしてあるようだ。 本書では「学校の先生と相撲の力士の共通点」、「クー・クラックス・クランと不動産業者の類似点」、「米国で犯罪率が急減した理由」など面白そうなテーマを取り上げて、これらのテーマに対して関連データの分析に基づいて回答を示してくれる。 米国で90年代に犯罪が急減した理由が1973年の中絶裁判に遡ることができる説明には驚かされたし、米国の学校の先生が自分の担当クラスのテスト結果を誤魔化していることがテストデータを分析すると読み取れることや、麻薬密売業者の経済合理性などは興味深く読むことができた。
Light reading entertaining and so-so
I think the est thing that you can lea n f om Levitt is that you should always ask questions and don't t ust eve ything you ead. This includes his ook too. I think it was fun to ead, ut the e was nothing that I would think a out too much f om it and the sto ies almost seem too cont ived to e t ue and afte eading Levitt you wonde if he made up lots of stuff just to tell his sto ies. Keep asking questions and maintaining a st ong sense of dou t though. I think he pounds that point home.
使える経済学
相撲の八百長の話や成績のいい子供を育てるときにするべきことなど楽しく読みました。親が何をしてあげるか、というよりも親が何であるか、という方が子供の成績に影響するのです、というデータ分析には、納得させられました。わかりやすく書いてあるのは一般向けのためで、共著者のSteve Du ne がわかりやすい英語で書き直したのでしょう。一方経済学者Levittの方はどうかと彼の学術論文数本（例：Ame ican Economic Review, vol.92, no.5, Dec 2002, pp.1594-1605が相撲の八百長話の元になった論文です）をチェックしてみましたが、さすが学者という感じでモデリングを強烈に推し進めてます。この本で一貫しているテーマは、世の中にどれほどいい加減な事をいう学者や評論家達が多いかということで、きちんと集めた正確なデータを使って真実を見つける経済学者の姿勢は評価したいと思います。この本にもちらっとだけ書いてありますが、この本からは、経済学者は道徳心が高くないといけないんだ、という正義感が感じられます。

徐々にはまる
魔術的に引き込まれていきます。 最初は状況がつかめませんが、慣れます。 無感傷に読み続けられるのがいい点です。 しかし、これ本当に当時に書いたものなのか。 明らかに読み手を意識した書き方な気がする。 仮に本当に当時からこの様な書き方をしていたのであれば、 ジャンキー思想のバーチャル体験になるわけですね。 （書くことが既にon the vi tual wo ld）
読み始めたらとまりません。
英語で書かれていることさえ忘れてしまうぐらいの面白さです。本当に包み隠さずその当時の著者Nikki Sixxのおかれたいた状況を本人の口調で書いてあるのでとても読みやすかったです。表舞台とはちがって裏ではこんな事があったのか〜バンドメンバーや関係者のコメントも生々しくかんじました。この本のサントラを一緒に聞くとさらによいです！

Motley C ue: The Di tの続編というか、Nikki Sixxが1人で書いている本。早く発売になってくれー。
