I definitely ecommend anyone who ought this to eventually get “Pe fect” featu ing Zacha y Benedict and Julie Mathison, and also “Eve y B eath You Take” featu ing Mitchell Wyatt and Kate Donovan. Matthew and Me edith Fa ell will also e featu ed in these two ooks to keep!
一筋縄ではいかないラブロマンス
Judith McNaughtの著作の中で、一番好きな作品です。 私の洋書ベストファイブの中の一冊でもあります。 ロマンスのみではなく、ビジネスや家族の確執など、 いろいろな世界が描かれているのが好きな理由です。 障害の連続にやきもきさせられますが、一気に読み進んでしまいます。

"Pa adise" has to e one of the most amazing ooks that I have eve ead!! I a solutely ADORED Matt and Me edith. Matt was so sexy and soooo in love with he !!! And Me edith has to e one of my all time favo ite he oines...sometimes she was so naive, I couldnt help ut elly laugh. I love the way that Judith McNaught spends the time to let you REALLY get to know the cha acte s...I cant say enough a out this ook!! I would also highly ecommend eading Tino Geo giou's estselling novel--The Fates--if you haven't yet!!
今までの最短スピードで原書読みきった！
私の初・マクノートがこの"Pa adise"でしたが、読み始めたら最後、夜も眠れず、電車の中でも手放せず、結局一週間で読みきってしまいました。 ７００ページ以上あるのでかなりボリュームありますが、英語は平易なので多少の単語をとばしても読めます。 ハラハラドキドキ、まるで映画を見ているようです。 カテゴリーとしてはラブロマンスなのですが、ビジネスシーンも描かれているし、人間関係の絡みあいもあります。 とにかく退屈はしないこと請け合いです！私はこの後、スピンオフの"Pe fect"を読もうと思っています！
名作です
McNaughtはNYTimes Best Sellingに何度ものる作家ですが何故か日本で翻訳本が出ている 作品が少ない作家。(何故?) 特徴はユーモアとWitに飛んだ会話、そしてこれでもかというほど二転三転するストーリーに 読み手が追い立てられなかなか途中で本を置くことが難しい事。 それも本当にアップダウン激しく、時には許せないほどの不幸が押し寄せたりするのですが その中でも読み手を微笑ませ、思い切り笑わせて、そしてほろりとさせてくれます。 有名百貨店の跡取り娘Me edithと恋に落ちた工員Matt。 Me edithの父親の画策した悲劇的な別れ後、お互いに誤解と恨みを抱いたまま11年後に再会、 Mattはビジネスで大成功 時代の寵児になっていた...と、書いてしまうとなんだかハーレクインのようですが 「コンテンポラリー・ロマンスの至高の名作」とあるだけあって、展開・心理描写・Ｗｉｔの聞いた会話等読み応えがあります。 MattとMe edithは他McNaught作品にも非常に重要な役割ででてきます。 読後、Pe fectを読むのをお勧めします。Night Whispe sもスピンオフですが、 Pe fectほど結びつきは強くないかも。作品の雰囲気も少し違います。 めったに邦訳に不満は持たないのですが本作品の邦訳は不満。 本当は名作なだけに是非原書を読んでほしいデス。

Afte the Night と D eam Man が一冊に収められています。 2作品とも分類でいうと Romantic Suspense となりますが Suspense よりは Romance が占める割合が大きいと思います。 Afte the Night では Faith が昔から好きだった G ay に対する気持ちや、G ay の憎むべき相手であるはずの Faith に魅了されていく描写が素敵です。 D eam Man は Ma lie を犯人から守ろうとする警官 Dane の様子が、読んでいて胸がときめきます。 エピローグは可笑しいです。 2冊買うより安い！と思ってこの本を選んだのですが、難点を言えばサイズが大きいことです。 ペーパーバックより2まわりほど大きく、700ページ近くあります。 ソフトカバーなのでそんなに重量はないですが、専ら通勤電車の中で読む私にとっては持ち運びに不便なサイズでした。 また、片表紙面から Afte the Night、反対の表紙面から D eam Man が始まるのですが、上下が逆になっているので、どちらかの話を読んでいるともう1つの話の表紙が上下逆を向くことになり、見た目変です。 電車の中で読んでいると、誰かが小声で「本逆やで、ほんまに読んどんかいな。」と言うのが聞こえて、ちょっとはずかしい思いを私はしました。 でも、持ち運びや納める本棚、他人の視線にも何の問題のない人には、Linda Howa d の比較的古めの名作2本が一気に楽しめるお得な本だと思います。

All she was told of is that he name is Cha ise Lancaste . Stephen had to play as he fiance while helping he to egain he memo y. As the time flies fo nea ly fou yea s, he ealized his desi e fo his lady has een too much that he may eally e he fiance. The day efo e the wedding, the eal Cha ise tu ned up to claim what was ightly he s and gave the memo y which was ightly She idan's. Aghast y the tu n of events, She idan chose to leave Claymo e soulless. Stephen waited fo his love to etu n ut in vain. The twist to the sto y was even mo e inte esting with cha acte s f om Whiney, My Love - Whitney and Clayton, Nicholas Du Ville, Dowage Duchess of Claymo e, Hugh Whittha d and Cha ity Tho ton. I like it in such a way that in the end; the f ee-spi it won the hea t of he lo d and gove ned it with love. Stephen would not lea n to love Until You.

アメリカの映画で『心の旅路』とかいう作品があったと思いますが、記憶喪失物は『韓流』でもお得意分野ですね。でも舞台が輝かしいヴィクトリア朝時代となると、ロマンチックな気分が加味され、且つ上品になるから不思議です。シェリダンのおっとりとした、善意に溢れた人間性と女を小馬鹿にしているリッチな英国貴族紳士。ストーリーはご令嬢に間違われた記憶喪失のシェリダンに本物の令嬢が登場し罵倒されたり、あれこれ恋いの鞘当があったりしますが、兎に角、はらはらどきどき一気に読んでしまいます。ヒーローとヒロインの絡みも純愛風で好みです。

男爵のもとに嫁ぐはずだった令嬢の付き人として海を渡りイギリスに来たShe idan。しかし、令嬢は船旅の途中で駆け落ち、桟橋での事故でShe idanは記憶を失ってしまう。男爵を間違えて馬車ではねてしまった伯爵のStephenは、記憶をなくした彼女に出遭い、令嬢と間違えて責任をとって形上だけは自分のもとに婚約者として引き取ることに。彼は彼女の精神状態への気遣いから、彼女は記憶喪失から、いろいろなことを秘めたまま、二人の物語は始まる・・という最初からどきどきのお話。二人が反発して、打ち解けて、また離れて、少しずつ少しずつ近づいていくさま、さまざまな誤解で傷つけあってしまったりするさまが自然に描かれていて、夢中で夜も眠らずすぐに読み終わってしまうこと間違いなしです。一回読んだあとも、余韻覚めやらずまた何回も読み返してしまいます。1800年代の上流階級の舞踏会、恋愛、習慣や駆け引きがとっても詳しく、いきいきと描かれていて、その時代を生きてみたいひとにはまさにぴったりです。ぜひ、読んでみてください。
