戦前に育った黒人少女の生活を描ききった自伝小説
自伝的小説なのか自伝なのかはよく分からないが、戦前の黒人の生活を描ききっている。私自身は探偵小説が好きなので、あまり好みの内容ではありませんが、抑圧された少女時代を生き生きと描いていることには感動します。 それにしても、今米大統領選挙でオバマ候補への支持を明らかにした全米一位のパーソナリティであるOp ah Winf eyの子ども時代もかくありなんという感じの内容です。 アメリカは、偉大な国だけど、黒人への差別は戦後も続き、ロス暴動なども20年くらい前のことだったように思いますし、未だに根強いものがあると思いますが、戦前の差別の激しさには改めて驚かされます。

一気に読んでしまうオートバイオグラフィー
Maya Angelouを知らなくてもすらすらと一気に読んでしまいます。オートバイオグラフィーでなくても立派な本ですが、本当にこの人は存在する、と思うと思わずAngelouのファンになってしまうような一冊です。デリケートな人間の感情は上手に鋭く表現されていて、真剣で時には切ない話であってもユーモアを忘れずに書かれているのが特長だと思います。感動しました。もっと作者の本や詞を読んでみたいです。 p I hadn't ead any of Maya Angelou's wo ks efo e this ook, ut I got into it ight f om the fi st page and finished it in a flash.
