傑作。
欧米側の文学史や文化史なんかには必ず載ってるハクスリーのB ave New Wo ld。 日本ではキリスト教が源泉の倫理観とシェイクスピアの文学的偉大さってのがイマイチぴんとこないから、日本での評価が低いのかもしれませんが、英米文学やら欧州思想史やらを少しでもかじるつもりがあるなら読んでおくべき名作です。 最初はあんまり面白くないんですが、誰もが幸せな完璧な世界の中、独り鬱々とコンプレックスに悩む主役の一人の人間的なところが見え始めたあたりから非常に面白くなり、そこからはもう止まりません。 本来なら内容を書くようなことはあまりしたくないのですが、ひとつだけ。 この本のCahpte 16,17で取り扱われている極めて哲学的・思想的な内容は、欧州の基本的な発想を理解する上で多くの示唆をその内に含んでいます。 洋書で、しかも単語が極めて難しいものばかり（ハクスリーの造語も多い） ですが、是非とも読みきっていただきたい作品です。

B ave New Wo ldですが、翻訳はありますよ。 松村達雄訳『すばらしい新世界』で講談社文庫からでています。 今でも、手に入ります。 内容とは関係ないけれども、今の評価が下がらないように、星５つ。
